Every year or two Bare Necessity is guaranteed to shake things up, and 2010 looks to be no different from the past. Adding Jude Cwalenski on drums and Chris Mitchell on keyboards to the lineup already consisting of Dodd Lede on guitar and vocal, Shawna Cole sharing vocal duties, Fred Morecraft playing bass guitar, and Derek Prather on electric guitar, the band seeks to add additional layers of versatility to a group already known for just that. With harmonized vocals and precision music, the band is ready to roll on re-vamped material from the archives and a whole slew of new material that wasn’t possible before.
Their high energy live performances include songs from multiple genres and decades, without the band losing their own identity in the process. Singer Lede professes “we are an original cover band!” Creating their own arrangements of popular music gives the band flexibility to mix and match songs as they choose, making each performance unique and different from one venue to the next, one night to the next.
Bare Necessity plays events public and private, large and small. Bare Necessity was selected as the Budweiser Plaza House Band for the Houston Texans organization in 2007, featured in the Galveston County Daily News publication “After Hours”, and regularly plays balls and parties for Mardi Gras in Galveston Texas every year. While the band loves to play the large events, smaller venues allow the band an intimacy with the audience that can be lost in the larger settings, driving them to continue to perform at local bars, pubs, and watering holes in the Houston and Galveston areas as much as possible.
